RE: Replacing Hitch Receiver on Truck

The only thing I still need to do is set up the wiring plug again since the old plug was mounted to the received. I am thinking about drilling into the bumper and mounting it there like the new Chevys have. For anyone that has done this, where did you get the plug part to mount in the bumper and were you able to just plug the wires back in using the original end on the wires or did you have to splice the wires together? Thanks, Mike Mike, I used this part to connect to the factory harness without splicing. Of course, this puts my socket under the bumper instead of mounted flush, but it solves your wiring problem.;) Jeff

RE: Where to get brake/wheel bearing parts

I bought my bearings, seals, and cotter pins at my local NAPA store. The bearings were better quality than the ones they replaced. BTW, the NAPA guys had NO reference material for a Dexter 3500lb. axle, but they had no problem matching up the parts by size.

RE: Replace Kitchen Faucet with?

that with single level faucet you open it in split second and adjust the temperature immediately, while 2 knobs faucets take several seconds of water running before you get it right. This is exactly why I'm looking to change my faucets. I'm tired of filling the greywater tank while I try to avoid being scalded.

RE: RV stereos

What do you need a USB port for? Some stereos have a USB port so that you can play MP3 files from a USB drive.

RE: Replacing Hitch Receiver on Truck

1. I installed a Putnam XDR. 2. I replaced the factory 7-pin socket with a Hopkins 40955 Ford/GM OE Replacement Harness. 3. I found the Putnam XDR at Amazon with free shipping (was 3-day UPS in my case) and it is cheaper now than when I purchased. Note: I had to move my Equalizer shank two holes after I replaced the receiver. The XDR is higher than the stock receiver. Also, I'm not sure that this same model Putnam hitch fits your truck, but it is the proper one for our TV. Good luck, Jeff

RE: Besides screen dining tents and bug spray, what do you do

I use a combination of the Thermacell and mosquito coils. I use the coils because people can't smell the Thermacell, so they don't think it is working.;) I bought my Dad a Thermacell last year and he uses it while deer hunting. He says it works better than the mosquito coils.

RE: Just pulled into Camp Hatteras!

If you are looking for a real nice place to eat I recommend Bass Night LoneCedar. I believe it is owned by the govenor of NC and has EXCELLENT food. It is located on HWY 64 W going towards Pirates Cove on the left, before the bridge. I'm sure we will be going there at least one time on this trip. That's Basnight's Lone Cedar Cafe near Manteo and is owned by Senator Mark Basnight, President Pro Tem of the Senate. You're almost correct in saying he is the governor, because he probably has more power than Gov. Easley.;) The Lone Cedar is my Mom's favorite restaurant. I like the Fried Flounder plate. BTW, lunch is cheaper than dinner and you get about the same thing. A great pizza place in Rodanthe (north of Camp Hatteras) is Lisa's Pizza (on the left, or 'soundside') and it is very good. Try the fried broccoli. Yum! (Yes, we fry EVERYTHING down here.) If you make it down to Buxton early in the morning, visit the Orange Blossom Bakery and get an Apple Ugly. You need to get there early because they are very popular. The OB is located on the right, just past the entrance to the lighthouse, across from Buxton Back Road. We just got back on Sunday from ten days at Saint Claire Landing, next to Camp Hatteras. We'll be back down for the weekend. Jeff

RE: Save a tree...buy a Hummer

I'd rather be in the hummer than the prius when the two collided any day of the week. "green" don't mean jack when you are 6 feet under. True, but why not help reduce carbon emissions so you don't get 6 ft. under sooner by lung disease. Yes, and make sure you are an organ donor.;)

RE: Happy hour recipies

Here's our summertime, at-the-beach drink 3 parts Bacardi Gold rum 1 part *coconut* rum (correction) 1 part banana rum 1 part blue Curacao pineapple juice Take one shot of the rum/Curacao mixture and mix with 8 ounces of the pineapple juice. Stir and enjoy over ice. I make six bottles of the rum/Curacao mix at a time by combining three bottles of Bacardi Gold, one bottle each of banana rum, coconut rum, and blue Curacao. Mix and pour back into the original bottles for storage. Jeff

RE: "Calling all Seasonal Campers"

I did find a reference to meter 'creep' at wikipedia. Here goes: "In an induction type meter, creep is a phenomenon that can adversely affect accuracy, that occurs when the meter disc rotates continuously with potential applied and the load terminals open circuited. A creep test is when the meter is tested for the error due to creep." - Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_meter

RE: "Calling all Seasonal Campers"

Well the campground called me yesterday to let me know they did there own test and what they found was that everything is normal. OK? He said the meter took about 20-30 seconds to finally stop, he said there is stored up electricity that needs to work itself out in between the brakers and the meter, Hum? I think those electrons must have been generated on a Monday or a Friday. I would ask for a refund if they are that slow. *edit* Good luck, Jeff

RE: The OBX Report

Of course the other big news is that a lot of the ORV beach access has been closed and if you are intersted check out this link; http://www.IslandFreePress.org It is not just the ORV (Off-Road Vehicle) beach access that is being affected. These closures affect pedestrians also! Darn thing is that the Endangered Species Act is being used to justify this for several species and only one species (Piping Plover) is considered Endangered. It is not about the birds. Jeff Just a thought: NPS wants to limit or do away with driving on the beach but if the Supt of the park makes the rule, he knows he will most likely get fired. So here's the plan, let's get the Bird Society to sue us (NPS) and we (NPS) will pay all their legal expenses and when it is all said and done the Bird Society just goes home. I could not agree with you more "It is not about the birds." I don't think he would be fired, but most likely promoted. I appears that the anti-ORV sentiment extends up into the Department of Interior. However, I don't understand them allowing pedestrians to be so severely restricted as has resulted from the decree. Fortunately, yesterday NC Congressman Walter Jones introduced HR.6233 to return management of the park to NPS and provide relief from the recent decree that was authored by Audubon, Def. of Wildlife, and SELC and signed by our questionable judge Terrence Boyle. Senators Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr introduced it as S.3113. Our eastern NC legislators are on board, but support from other areas is needed. It is not about the birds, it is about access for those who are not wealthy enough to rent an oceanfront cottage or campsite. It's also about being able to access areas like Cape Point which are 1.5 miles from a small parking lot (~12 vehicles) and 3 miles from the main parking lot by the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Most people do not understand the access issue until they visit Cape Hatteras and see the geography for themselves. Visit if you get a chance. It is a magical place.

RE: The OBX Report

Sorry but just what/where is OBX?? The use of local abbreviations really bugs me! I like to know what part of the c ountry folks are referring to in their posts. The OP's on HI:W (Hatteras Island, not Hawaii!) It took me a while to figure out was PINS means... Jeff

RE: Things left on the highway

1. A sewer hose on the way to Hatteras Island at Easter. 2. A cargo hauler complete with strapped down cooler sitting in the middle of the lane on Highway 12 just north of Oregon Inlet last summer. Two fellows were standing on the shoulder claiming salvage rights when we passed. 3. A toolbox that broke off of a tractor-trailer several years ago. Somebody with the initials 'RW' is missing a lot of hand and tire tools. 4. On a bicycle ride in Raleigh several years ago I saw a fork in the road...but I didn't take it.;) Jeff

RE: Winegard "batwing" antenna and DTV?

Mine works great. I saw another post a week or so back where someone claimed that analog signals traveled through electromagnetic waves (true), while digital signals traveled through the air instead in bits .;) In reality, your antenna doesn't know the difference between analog and digital. As mentioned above, the digital channels are located on higher frequencies, but still in the range already covered by your antenna. The broadcasters are not using the lower frequencies (channels) because lower frequencies suffer from more atmospheric 'noise' and that produces interference and errors in the DTV data stream, creating defects in the image. Jeff P.S.- One could argue that a 'DTV antenna' could be designed to cover ONLY the spectrum used for DTV transmissions. Not having to create an antenna with such a wide bandwidth could increase the efficiency on the necessary channels, giving you better reception. I think at this time most manufacturers have upgraded their antennas to digital by affixing a label stating "Digital Ready".:W

RE: What I just learned about MPG

Any engine has a sweet spot for fuel efficiency, find out what yours is, and that's where the best MPG is. It is not necessarily "low RPM's" Al C All things beng equal(tire pressure, drivetrain health), mpg is about rpm. Keep your rpm down, your mpg goes up. That's the end of that tune. I keep reading comments about lower RPMs equaling higher efficiency. I agree with Al. Our 5.3L Tahoe gets the same MPG at 2100 RPM out of overdrive as it does at 1500 RPM in overdrive. I use the Tow/Haul mode to switch between the two.

RE: Cleaning wheel bearings

I used undiluted Simple Green to cut the grease, rinsed with water and then flushed with brake cleaner. They dried in the sun in a few minutes. The bearings were so clean and dry that you could barely turn them. I used a short section of wooden dowel and a hammer to tap out the grease seal. I replaced them with new seals.
